Our setting on Lake Bunyonyi, whose local name is the "Place of many little birds," is instantly captivating. The island we call home is known locally as Njuyeera, which translates to "The White House", referencing the original residence built here by Dr. Leonard Sharp in the 1920s. Dr. Sharp and his wife established this site as a place of refuge and care, cultivating the famous botanical garden (a serene space you can explore today) while pioneering a tradition of generous hospitality that we proudly continue.
For your peace of mind and enjoyment, the lake is uniquely Bilharzia- and crocodile-free, inviting you for safe swimming and canoeing right off our property. Beyond our shores, you can engage with local communities or witness the layered history of the lake's other 28 islands by taking a canoeing trip. This unique blend of pioneering missionary history and enduring local culture ensures a profound and meaningful connection to the human story of Uganda.
